Installation from the Astbill Live CD is very simple.

1) Boot the computer using the live CD

2) Right Click on the Desktop and get to the Install to HD option.

3) System will ask for the Hdd to install on and then prompt you to proceed.

4) important *your hdd will be partioned and formatted* you will loose your existing data.

5) Depending on your situation, choose Either GRUB or the LILO boot loading program ( i choosed lilo)

7) On Re-boot, the system will prompt you to set the passwords for the root and dsl user accounts. *****SET the passwords******

8) then login using either or the above two accounts.

9) configure the network settings. (reffer to dsl faq)

Installing live cd to harddrive

By mwarren on Tue, 2006-01-03 16:03

I have tried installing live cd to harddrive. It gives me two options option a: install to hard drive and option b: frugal install.
If I do a it act's like it is going to install and the screen disapears. If I choose furgal install then I get my choise of grub or lilo. I have tried both ways and it says it cannot create the partition.
I have 2 sata drives 0/1 configuration. I tried entering in hda, also hd1 and hd2. Each time it says I need to reboot to get partition info.

try using IDE drives

By anil on Thu, 2006-01-05 21:03

Sata Drives need their driver loaded by the OS for this drives to appear in the system. Use IDE drives if possible.

Sata drives i think start as sda ... sdb etc... similar to scsi drives.

Installing Live CD to HDD

By p2pvoice on Fri, 2005-12-02 04:49

Hello Anil:
I got stuck on your step 2.
I booted my computer using LiveCD AstBill-0.9.0.13. I just hit return.
On that computer (with LiveCD) all I see is text with no mouse action.
I can get to AstBill from a different computer using a web browser. And everything seems to run fine.

Now, your Step 2: Right Click on the Desktop and get to the Install to HD option - I don't understand.

Which Desktop on what machine?
Do I have to choose an option during the first step?

Please help with how exactly to execute Step 2.

Thanks for your help.

Installing Live CD to HDD

By p2pvoice on Thu, 2005-10-20 04:09

Anil:

Thanks very much for this post - I was looking for something like this. I am going to try this very shortly.

In the meantime, I was wondering if you have any answers to my puzzle:
Please see this thread:

http://astbill.com/node/98

Basically, ARE said that LiveCD "doesn't touch the HDD". My question then is:

"OK, so if it doesn't touch the harddisk, what does LiveCD "install" mean and what does it do?

Also, when one makes configuration changes, where are those stored? Which files and directories?"

Thanks.

LiveCD doesn't touch the HDD -Untill Installed

By anil on Thu, 2005-10-20 06:34

p2pvoice,

what Are said is true. The live CD when does not install on to your HDD when you boot the computer with teh LIVE CD.

The Live CD boots from the CDROM and works in the RAM ONLY. When you do some changes, these changes rae stored in the RAM and not on the HDD, therefore this also means that you cannot save any changes or add new user accounts & etc. These changes are lost, when you re-boot the computer.

The install method that i posted above, involves installation to the HDD and therefore, any changes you do are permanent.

there has to be swap partition in your hard disk
Otherwise your are not able to install to hard disk
Resboot system
Check where the partion is crerated ,
Example : /dev/hda or dev/hdc like that you find which partion is swap over there , and try toi install in that swap partion
other wise u may not install
